FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Brett Gardner is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Monday.

Gardner is still dealing with an ankle injury, so he'll continue to take a seat until he's back to 100-percent. Martin Prado will be in left field once again.ANALYST: Howard Bender

A second MRI on Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma's right lat muscle revealed a Grade 1 strain. He'll will miss two to four weeks.

Iwakuma has been lit up this season, and the lat strain could be the source of his struggles. The Mariners appear to have dodged a bullet here, as lat strains generally take a while to come back from, but luckily Iwakuma has the lowest grade strain. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Adam Wainwright left the field with the help of a trainer after an injury running to first. He is coming out of the game.

Wainwright suffered a left ankle injury and appeared to be in some considerable pain after the injury. He'll be evaluated in St. Louis and Waino's availability for his next start is in doubt. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Chad Billingsley gave up seven runs in five innings in his third rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Billingsley is recovering from elbow surgery, and although the results of his start on Saturday were disappointing, it looks like he got through it healthy, which is what's important. He's expected to make one more rehab start before joining the Phillies rotation.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Jake Marisnick sat for a second straight day Saturday with a sore right leg. Manager A.J. Hinch said he also might sit Sunday.

The Astros are still making the injury sound relatively minor, but it's tough to tell how long Marisnick will be out for. He could be back tomorrow, or the next day, but he could also miss some more time as Houston is being pretty quiet about the issue. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Nick Swisher (knee) was scheduled to be off on Saturday in his rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus. He is scheduled to play all nine innings in RF on Sunday.

Swisher has done well in recovering from severe knee surgery, and he is close to returning to the big league club. No one knows how he will look at plate and in the field once he is back, but Swisher likely still has some pop in his bat and may be worth a speculative add in deep leagues if he finds his stroke early. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Dodgers confirmed Scott Baker will get the start on Sunday.

Baker will get the spot start over Joe Wieland, but he will likely return to Triple-A after the start. He's not a viable option in fantasy. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Mark Teixeira went 3-for-4 with a solo home run against the Mets on Saturday.

That’s Tex’s eighth home run of the year. He won’t continue to hit home runs at this rate, but it’s not unreasonable to think he can hit 25 or more this year. He has also drawn as many walks as he has strikeouts. And he’s hitting .254 despite a .163 BABIP. That’s mainly because most of the balls he’s hitting are leaving the yard right now, but it’s still encouraging for his batting average going forward. Analysis: Brett Talley

Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI against the Yankees on Saturday.

Plawekci has started four of the last five games behind the plate for the Mets, and this is his second multi-hit game. Plawekci showed a bit of pop in the minors, and he could hit a few out. He also showed decent plate discipline. If you’re dealing with an injury at catcher, Plawecki is worth a look. Analysis: Brett Talley

Juan Lagares went 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI against the Yankees on Saturday.

This was not a typical day for Lagares at the plate, and you shouldn’t expect many more like this from him. He strikes out a bit much to hit for decent average, and he rarely walks. He could reach double digit steals, but that’s about the extent of attractive fantasy attributes. Analysis: Brett Talley

Eric Campbell went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Yankees on Saturday.

Campbell has appeared in 10 straight games for the Mets, and he’s been decent. This was his first home run, but he has scored nine runs and has drawn seven walks compared to three walks. But long-term Campbell doesn’t have enough power, speed or average to have value outside of deep leagues. In OBP leagues he gets a bit of a bump. Analysis: Brett Talley

Lucas Duda went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and two strikeouts against the Yankees on Saturday.

It’s hard to find much wrong with what Duda has done so far. His run and RBI totals are in the double digits, he has a couple home runs, he’s drawing walks and he’s not striking out too much. His average will come down once his BABIP normalizes, but he’ll still be giving what you expected from him or better in the batting average category as long as he keeps the strikeouts down. Analysis: Brett Talley

C.C. Sabathia allowed seven runs and nine hits with no walks and three strikeouts in five innings against the Mets on Saturday.

Sabathia looks a lot like he did last year, which obviously isn’t good. He’s still got good strikeout and walk rates, but he’s having trouble when balls are put into play. His velocity is still down, and it seems he just can’t manage contact without the velocity. He gave up a ton of home runs last year, and he gave up three today. He’s still tempting, but it may be time to give it up. He’ll go again Friday in Boston. Analysis: Brett Talley

Matt Harvey allowed two runs and five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Saturday.

Harvey came up one out short of his second career game. What else can you say about Harvey? He’s awesome. His strikeout to walk ratio is in double digits. His ERA should be even lower if he hadn’t had a bit of bad luck with the long ball so far. He’s the man. He’ll go again next week against Washington. Analysis: Brett Talley

Braves moved veteran Nick Markakis to the leadoff spot on Saturday.

The Braves lineup doesn't have many options to hit at the top of the lineup, but Markakis is probably their best option as he can get on base at a decent clip. Hitting leadoff consistently would help Markakis's value a lot. Analysis: Ben Diamond
