Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) will throw another simulated game on Thursday.
Step by step. Inch by inch. Tanaka eases closer and closer to attempting a return. The Yankees still aren't setting a timetable for his first trip back to the mound for them, so we'll just have to continue tracking the progress and wait. He reported no issues after his Sunday session and Thursday will be of the same variety, throwing to live hitters. Without knowing when he could be back, we'll assume something in the mid-September range for a return.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Stephen Piscotty went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday’s 6-4 loss to the Cubs.
Things definitely looked promising for the Cardinals when Piscotty gave the team an early 2-0 lead with with one swing of the bat in the top of the first inning. However, the offense largely dried up for the Cardinals after that and their season is now done. Piscotty was simply outstanding in this NLDS, going 6-for-16 with three homers, a double, six RBI and five runs scored. The sweet-swinging rookie has quickly made a name for himself in St. Louis and around the league. Analysis: Nate Miller
Ravens cut CB Rashaan Melvin on Tuesday.
Melvin started some games late last year for Baltimore, including some playoff games. But after being injured in the preseason and getting benched at halftime of Week 3, he just lost favor with the coaching staff. This isn't your run-of-the-mill no name being cut, so the Ravens are shaking things up a bit. Analysis: Brett Talley
