Brett Gardner is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Sunday.

Gardner has been dealing with a sore ankle as of late, so he's going to get the day off Sunday to rest. You can consider him day-to-day as there is little belief that he'll need a DL stint. Martin Prado is filling in for Gardner in left field on Sunday.ANALYST: Howard Bender

Chris Long was back at practice Tuesday after missing the first three days with a back issue.

The oft-injured Long is coming off ankle surgery as well. Any injury is cause for concern and Long hasn't looked like the same player. The Rams will probably part ways with him after the season, but they're hoping he can pressure the QB at least partially like he used to. Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Joaquin Arias accepted outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento.

Arias was designated for assignment, but passed through waivers unclaimed. The utility infielder will return to Sacramento where he'll serve as organizational depth.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Kyle Kendrick says his MRI confirms rotator cuff inflammation.

Inflammation is good news as opposed to a tear. He'll be shut down indefinitely for the time being, and see Dr. David Altchek for a second opinion. There's no timetable for his return.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Dolphins released OL Dionte Savage.

Savage, an UDFA out of Oklahoma, will attempt to find a roster spot elsewhere. He'll probably get another shot as the 6'4' 335 pounder has the size to play in the league.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Dolphins claimed former Browns WR Kevin Cone.

Cone played in 16 games with the Falcons in 2013, but caught just one measly pass all season. He'll try to make the roster as a special teamer, but he'll probably get cut.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Alex Gordon plans to take batting practice with his teammates outdoors this weekend. He took indoor batting practice Tuesday afternoon.

Gordon is working his way back from a nasty Grade 2 groin strain. His original timetable was eight weeks which would put him back the first week of September. There's no update on his return possibly being quicker, so stick with that timeframe at least for now.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Manager Brad Ausmus confirms that Buck Farmer will be moved to the bullpen.

Farmer has been pretty brutal in the rotation giving up 15 runs over 14 2/3 innings. Detroit will try him in the bullpen, but he's not going to be much better there. When you stink, you stink.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Manager Don Mattingly said he believes Justin Turner will return from the disabled list in the minimum 15 days.

Turner has a skin infection in his thigh, but it isn't believed to be serious. This is good news for the Dodgers as they'll need their slugging third baseman in order to hold off the Giants in the NL West.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Red Sox option RHP Ryan Cook to triple-A Pawtucket.

Cook was optioned to make room for Henry Owens. The right-hander was just acquired from Oakland, but he'll head back to Triple-A. He could be back at any point though for the pitching starved Red Sox.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Red Sox select LHP Henry Owens from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The prized left-hander will make his major league debut on Tuesday night against the Yankees. Talk about being thrown right into the fire. Owens has a 3.16 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 122 1/3 innings for Pawtucket. He's only $4600, but you'll probably want to look elsewhere as the matchup against the Yankees is less than ideal.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein
