Panthers coach Ron Rivera says QB Cam Newton got the wind knocked out of him in Friday's preseason game. X-rays were taken as a precaution and came back negative.
Definitely understandable that the Panthers are being over-protective right now, and rightfully so. The offensive line is still jelling and it's Newton who is the one to suffer as he's going to take plenty of hits if the front-five don't put it together. He still makes for a decent fantasy option because of his legs, but if he starts running less, you might be in trouble with him this year.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Lions placed CB Alex Carter on injured reserve.
It is now officially a lost season for the rookie. He was placed on short-term IR to begin the season, and is now done for the year. He has no stats, and while he says he is healthy, the fact remains that he is too far behind after missing the first nine weeks of the season with the IR/Designated to Return status to open the season. Redskins are working out CB AL Louis-Jean on Tuesday.
He played in nine games with the Bears in 2014, but was released this season out of training camp, having failed to impress the new coaching regime in Chicago. He has decent size at 6'1" for a cornerback, and also flashes good speed for coverage. At present, you do not need to put him on your IDP radar, unless he is signed to the 53-man roster instead of the practice squad. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
Robert Quinn (hip) hopes to practice Wednesday.
Quinn has not played since Week 10, when he was remarkably unproductive, not even producing one tackle in 14 snaps. The team should be excited to have him back, to provide pressure on the opposing QB. He does have five sacks on the season, which is much less than what the Rams expect from their top pass rusher. His practice status on Wednesday could be key to his ability to take the field in Week 13, so keep your eyes open to future developments. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
