Nelson Cruz went 1-for-4 and belted a solo home run, his 34th of the season, against the Cubs on Friday.
Cruz was in a bit of a slump, batting just .219 in August, but has broken out in a big way the last couple of days, hitting three homers over his last four games. Cruz will remain a huge help in the power department for fantasy owners, and may actually see an average increase from his current .258, as it has been dragged down by a poor .263 BABIP. Jed Lowrie left Monday's game with a thumb injury. He's going back to Houston Tuesday for an MRI.
In all likelihood Jonathan Villar or Marwin Gonzalez will fill in for Lowrie if he misses extended time, but there's an outside chance the first-place Astros call up uber-prospect Carlos Correa for his first major league taste. Correa is murdering the Texas League (Double-A) to the tune of .375/.429/.719 with four home runs and two stolen bases. He's worth a speculative add in competitive leagues until the situation becomes more clear. Astros GM Jeff Luhnow has hinted that he wouldn't be scared to "lift" Correa straight from Double-A at some point. Analysis: Spencer Silva
