Justin Verlander is throwing off flat ground from 50 feet for the first time since diagnosed with shoulder inflammation.
It's a positive step, albeit a minor one. The Tigers will take it slow with Verlander with the hope of getting him back for the final month and playoff push. From here, the Tigers will determine whether a bullpen session is next or if they have to hold him back and keep him throwing from flat ground. We'll await a report from the team Wednesday when they re-evaluate.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Whiteside went to the bench with an ankle injury.
Whiteside injured the ankle or foot on a rebound and came up limping a bit, so with him just recently coming back from a hip injury it's likely a precautionary move to take him out. He was effective in Sunday's loss however with a double-double off the bench behind starter A'mare Stoudemire. More updates to follow once the extent of the injury and timeframe are better known.
