Masahiro Tanaka threw about 25 fastballs off a mound today and reported no pain or setbacks. He hopes to throw breaking pitches next time.
It is looking like the Yankee's decision to forgo surgery (with Tanaka's input, of course) was a wise one, but he has a lot of work still to do before he can rejoin the rotation. All his owners will be watching intently to see how he does when he snaps off a curve or other breaking pitch while on the mound.ANALYST: Ivar G. Anderson
Stephen Piscotty went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday’s 6-4 loss to the Cubs.
Things definitely looked promising for the Cardinals when Piscotty gave the team an early 2-0 lead with with one swing of the bat in the top of the first inning. However, the offense largely dried up for the Cardinals after that and their season is now done. Piscotty was simply outstanding in this NLDS, going 6-for-16 with three homers, a double, six RBI and five runs scored. The sweet-swinging rookie has quickly made a name for himself in St. Louis and around the league. Analysis: Nate Miller
Ravens cut CB Rashaan Melvin on Tuesday.
Melvin started some games late last year for Baltimore, including some playoff games. But after being injured in the preseason and getting benched at halftime of Week 3, he just lost favor with the coaching staff. This isn't your run-of-the-mill no name being cut, so the Ravens are shaking things up a bit. Analysis: Brett Talley
