Jonathan Papelbon earned his 28th save after throwing a perfect 10th inning to close out the Phillies' 5-3 win over the Giants on Friday.
Papelbon has now gone nine-straight appearances without giving up a run and has a 9:2 K:BB and five saves over nine innings in that span. Many thought he was on the move with the trade deadline and technically, he still could be, but for now, he's staying put in Philadelphia and should continue to see plenty of save opportunities.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
