Kole Calhoun went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and a run scored during he Angels' 5-4 win over the Rangers on Friday.
Calhoun is now slashing .294/.348/.489 with 13 home runs, 37 RBI, 60 runs scored and four stolen bases through 327 a-bats, as he continues to take full advantage of hitting ahead of Mike Trout. Although his RBI production is going to be limited while batting leadoff, Calhoun remain a solid fantasy option while maintaining a solid batting average and scoring runs at a high rate. Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
