FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

David Ortiz is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Wednesday.

Ortiz made a rare start at first base in Tuesday's win over the Reds, but will take a seat in favor of Mike Napoli in Wednesday afternoon's contest. The Red Sox move on to Houston following the game, meaning they will be back in an American League ballpark meaning Ortiz will be back in his usual role on Thursday.ANALYST: Matthew Beck

Robert Covington heads to the locker room with head athletic trainer Kevin Johnson after a hard spill. He is holding his right arm.

In an otherwise dark season for the 76ers, Covington has been a bright spot. He seems to have found a spot with this team and they will hope that this injury isn't serious.  Analysis: Colby Conway

Mark Teixeira said his surgically-repaired right wrist feels as good as it has in a long time.

Not only is Tex saying he feels great, but the team trainer says Teixeira is in the best shape of his life. He has been working out and has even changed his offseason diet in order to produce on the field for the Yankees in 2015. Tex is going to hit in the middle of the order and manager Joe Girardi says he is capable of hitting 30 home runs and collecting 100 RBIs in 2015.  Analysis: Colby Conway

Dolphins are interested in cornerback Kareem Jackson during free agency.

Jackson has spent his first five seasons with the Houston Texans and was a solid corner for the team. During his stint in Houston, he recorded 241 tackles, 10 interceptions, 50 pass deflections and one touchdown in 74 games. Jackson will receive some interest in free agency as he is a highly capable NFL corner. Analysis: Colby Conway

Ish Smith started second half at PG ahead of Isaiah Canaan.

Since coming to Philly, Canaan has averaged 11 points and three assists in 28 minutes of action per game. He is a low-end fantasy guard and the fact that he isn't starting the second half could pose some bad news for the Murray State product. Analysis: Colby Conway

Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez is pushing David Buchanan for the fifth spot in the Phillies' starting rotation.

Gonzalez says he his shoulder is completely healthy and it will need to be if he wants to win the final rotation spot. Gonzalez was a solid reliever for the team last season, but he believes that he is a better starter. At the most, he is a streaming option for those in need of a pitcher on a particular day, given a favorable matchup. Analysis: Colby Conway

Michael Pineda said he felt fine after he tossed 20 pitches during his first batting practice session Sunday.

Pineda's stint with the Yankees has been injury filled, but the Yankees will hope that trend will be broken this season. Pineda is an important part of the New York rotation and he stated that he wants to pitch over 200 innings this year. Well, there are only a few qualms with that. His career high in a season is 171, which was in 2011. Also, he only threw 76 innings last year. If healthy, Pineda can be a solid fantasy asset as he has swing-and-miss stuff. Analysis: Colby Conway

Panthers have no intention of bringing Greg Hardy back next season.

He could possibly be suspended which makes it tough for a team to bring him on board. However, he is phenomenal talent and is a defensive game changer. Is it worth it? Hardy played in one game last year before spending the rest of the season on the commissioner's exempt list. Hardy is young and had 15 sacks in his last full season, but organizations will have to evaluate whether or not that is worth the trouble. Analysis: Colby Conway

Dodgers can not send Alex Guerrero down to the minors without his permission.

This puts the Dodgers in an interesting situation. Due to his contract, he is not allowed to be optioned to the minors after his first season without his permission. Well, he has emphatically stated that he is not going down to the minors. He could be traded or cut by the team at some point. He will work at second base, third base and outfield this spring in an effort to see where he could potentially play in the majors. Analysis: Colby Conway

Kenneth Faried is starting at center on Sunday.

Faried is averaging 11.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game thus far in the season. He is in the starting lineup for this game and he should be in your fantasy lineup as well. Analysis: Colby Conway

Randy Foye is in the Nuggets' starting lineup on Sunday.

The Villanova product has been struggling of late and hasn't really stepped up since Arron Afflalo was traded to Portland. In February, he only averaged 5.6 points in roughly 19 minutes per game. Foye can shoot the three ball effectively, but he hasn't shown it lately as he has made only two of his last 16 attempts. Analysis: Colby Conway

Impending free-agent RB DeMarco Murray probably will hit the free-agent market

There is still a chance that Murray returns to Dallas, but it won't come until after he tests the free-agent market. Talks between the two have been slow, but it is almost understood that he is going to hit the market. Murray had a great 2014 season which saw him carry the ball 392 times for 1,845 yards.  Analysis: Colby Conway

Kris Bryant has impressed Cubs manager Joe Maddon so far this spring. He's solid, he's motivated, Maddon said Sunday of the Cubs' top prospect. He's got a really nice way about him. He's really good, he knows he's really good, but he carries that very well.

Bryant is an uber-prospect who is going to be a focal point of the franchise for many years. Currently, the team is leaning towards playing Mike Olt at third base, but he is simply a spot holder until Bryant is ready. A really good spring could force Maddon to plug Bryant at the hot corner as early as Opening Day. While Bryant has seen some work in the outfield, his future in the MLB is at the hot corner. Analysis: Colby Conway

Update: JaVale McGee denied rumors that the 76ers were negotiating a buyout, so he could sign with a contender on Sunday.

McGee said that he wants to stay in Philadelphia, something you don't hear often from players. McGee will continue to see decent playing time for the lowly Sixers and seems to favor that more than a reduced role on a contender. Analysis: Colby Conway

Jim Henderson made a big step forward on Sunday when he threw a session of live batting practice. It was the first time he faced hitters since having surgery on his right shoulder last August. Henderson said the session went well.

While Henderson only threw 25 pitches, it was a substantial step in the right direction. He will be hoping for a healthy 2015 where he figures to serve primarily as a bullpen arm for the Brewers. He posted a 7.15 ERA in his unhealthy 2014 season. Analysis: Colby Conway

Rule 5 draft pick from the Red Sox Jason Garcia impresses Orioles in intrasquad game Sunday.

Garcia was reportedly clocked in the mid-90s and he recorded two strikeouts in his only inning of work. It's unsure what his role will be with the team this season, but he most likely won't be a valuable fantasy asset this year.  Analysis: Colby Conway
