Andrew McCutchen (rib) remains out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Sunday.
Not a surprise here as McCutchen is still dealing with a cracked rib. The Pirates said they wanted to give him a few days to see if they could avoid putting him on the disabled list, so these are those few days. The club will continue to evaluate him on a daily basis, but they should announce a firm decision within a couple of days.ANALYST: Howard Bender
The Cubs have released Edwin Jackson.
In 31 innings out of the Cubs' bullpen, he posted a 3.19 ERA and an ugly 23:12 K/BB ratio. His fantasy value has dwindled to nothing and he can be dropped in all formats. Jackson will hope that another team will take a chance on his right arm. Analysis: Colby Conway
ESPN's Buster Olney reports the Chicago Cubs are not pursuing James Shields.
A few months ago, the Padres were the biggest buyers of the offseason. After splurging to acquire Shields, Justin Upton and Craig Kimbrel, the team has almost settled into an all too familiar role. The Cubs could use another starting pitcher, but it won't be Shields donning a Chicago jersey after the deadline. Shields is 8-3 with a 3.77 ERA on the season, and he is a quality No. 3 starter in most formats. Analysis: Colby Conway
New York Jets have signed wide receiver Austin Hill.
Hill is a big receiver (6'3", 212 pounds) who missed his 2013 season with an ACL tear. He did catch 48 passes for 630 yards, scoring four TDs for Arizona last season. He will compete for a position in training camp as part of bunch of other fringe receivers, and there are questions about his speed and agility due to his surgically repaired knee. Analysis: Ivar G.
