Ian Desmond went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and a walk against the Mets on Thursday.
Desmond is now slashing .247/.300/.423 with 18 home runs, 69 RBI and 12 stolen bases over 430 at-bats, with Thursday's home run being first since July 21. Although his batting average isn't going to win anyone over, his home run and RBI production is more than fantasy owners could have expected from Desmond this season as he remains a great option to deploy at shortstop with power at a premium this day and age. Tim Duncan (rest) will not play Friday against Denver.
The Spurs will take advantage of the holiday and give Duncan an extra day of rest and get ready for Saturday against the Hawks. The Spurs could go with LaMarcus Aldridge at center for Friday and use David West at power forward or they could just give Boris Diaw the start. Either way, those are the three players likely to see the extra work in Duncan's absence. Analysis: Howard Bender
