Red Sox placed Allen Craig (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list.
And there it is, folks. Allen Craig, take a bow. Probably one of the most overrated players over the last two or three years. How people were ever suckered in to drafting this guy or believing that he was so much more than he actually was is just a completely mystery. He makes his annual trip to the disabled list here and while he is supposed to only need the minimum time, Craig is a notoriously slow healer and will probably end up out longer. Carmelo Anthony says he's going to rehab his knee by getting in the weight room during the All-Star break.
Melo was able to return to the Knicks lineup on Sunday and had himself a very solid game, despite the loss for New York. The plan is for him to play through it in the remaining games ahead of the break and then hit the weight room to build up strength and stability in the ailing knee. Head coach Derek Fisher believes that he will be fine long-term however if it doesn't get better and the Knicks continue to fall farther out of the playoff race in the Eastern conference, New York may have a decision on their hands. Whiteside went to the bench with an ankle injury.
Whiteside injured the ankle or foot on a rebound and came up limping a bit, so with him just recently coming back from a hip injury it's likely a precautionary move to take him out. He was effective in Sunday's loss however with a double-double off the bench behind starter A'mare Stoudemire. More updates to follow once the extent of the injury and timeframe are better known.
