Montee Ball (appendectomy) will be sidelined for the rest of training camp and the preseason, but is expected to be ready for the regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
This is an interesting development. Ball is penciled in as the starter ahead of Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. An expected back-end of the first round pick in fantasy drafts, it would be disastrous if the time on the shelf costs him carries at the beginning of the season. It could also present an opportunity to less risk-averse owners.ANALYST:
Tom Brady completed 23-of-42 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots 30-24 OT loss to the Broncos on Sunday.
Brady turned in one of his better games of the season and Sunday and while he's certainly had better numbers in previous games it is hard to ignore the lack of weapons on the offensive side of the ball that he had at his disposal with injuries to Dion Lewis, Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola over the last three weeks. Brady tossed three more touchdown passes on Sunday night, connecting with Rob Gronkowski, Scott Chandler and Brandon Bolden for the scores. Late in the fourth quarter the Patriots passing attack suffered another tremendous blow as Rob Gronkowski was carted off with a knee injury which at the time appeared to be severe and yet Brady still managed to drive the Patriots down the field for a game tying field goal try to send the contest into OT. If Gronk is forced to miss any extended amount of time the fantasy impact for Brady will take another big blow as the available offensive weapons will be reduced to the very bottom of the depth chart.
