Davis Ortiz was all the offense the Red Sox needed as he wen 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, a run scored and a walk against the Rays on Sunday.
After a vicious three-game stretch without a home run, Ortiz finally came through for his fantasy owners with his fifth long ball in his last seven games. A horrifying struggle, we know. Big Papi's .251 batting average continues to be a struggle, but so long as he's hitting for power like this, the average can fall to the wayside. It also helps when he's got 12 RBI and six runs scored over these last seven games as well, so enjoy to surge in the counting stats and don't sweat the average so much.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Ravens announce extension for cornerback Jimmy Smith.
The deal is said to give him an average of just under $10 million per year. Smith was heading into the final year of his rookie contract – a reported $6.9 million option that the team picked up before last season. Considering his level of play and contributions on defense, it would have been quite the bargain but probably would have left a bad taste in the cornerback's mouth. He should be all smiles though heading into camp now with a new deal. Analysis: Howard Bender
Mirza Teletovic is listed as probable for Wednesday.
Teletovic was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolus, meaning he had blood clots in his lungs. He hasn't played since January 22nd, but he looks like he will be on the court for Wednesday's game. It would be surprising to see him play a full workload of minutes seeing as its been three months since he's last played. Regardless, his return would be a nice emotional boost to his team.
