Justin Verlander went seven innings in a losing effort to the Angles on Saturday, giving up three runs, six hits, a home run, walking three and striking out four.
While Verlander has now thrown back-to-back quality starts, the overall results have been fairly mediocre. On top of another three runs allowed, giving him 15 in his last four starts (26 innings), he's also sporting a just a 9:6 K:BB over these last two outings. The numbers just aren't there anymore. Sure he can have a good outing every so often and sure, maybe he'll throw you a quality start every now and then, but the days of relying on Verlander are long gone. He's a little better than your average streamer, but not by much.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Lions placed CB Alex Carter on injured reserve.
It is now officially a lost season for the rookie. He was placed on short-term IR to begin the season, and is now done for the year. He has no stats, and while he says he is healthy, the fact remains that he is too far behind after missing the first nine weeks of the season with the IR/Designated to Return status to open the season. Redskins are working out CB AL Louis-Jean on Tuesday.
He played in nine games with the Bears in 2014, but was released this season out of training camp, having failed to impress the new coaching regime in Chicago. He has decent size at 6'1" for a cornerback, and also flashes good speed for coverage. At present, you do not need to put him on your IDP radar, unless he is signed to the 53-man roster instead of the practice squad. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
