The Philadelphia Phillies are telling teams that might be interested in trading for CL Jonathan Papelbon that they would absorb a portion of the $18 million remaining on his contract. However, there appears to be little interest.
Papelbon's financial situation would put off some clubs, but his decreased fastball velocity is prolly more of an issue, as well as the couple of bad outings he had before shutting down the Giants this past Thursday. The market for closers is dwindling, as both the Angels and Tigers addressed their needs recently.ANALYST: Ivar G. Anderson
Orioles are expected to option Tyler Wilson to Triple-A Norfolk.
Wilson's demotion to Triple-A will clear a spot in the bullpen for Oliver Drake, who's been pitching unbelievably well in Triple-A. Wilson hasn't been particularly bad since being called up, appearing in two games and posting a 4.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP, but Drake's performance appears to have have won him the opportunity to take that next step. Athletics recalled Kendall Graveman from Triple-A Nashville.
Graveman will make the start in today's game against the Rays as a result of Drew Pomeranz being placed on the DL. Graveman struggled mightily in his four starts with the A's (8.27 ERA, 2.02 WHIP, 9/7 strikeout-to-walk ratio) prior to being sent back down to Triple-A, but has been dominant in his four minor leagues starts since then (1.85 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 14/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio).
