Fantasy Player Updates & News

Colin Kaepernick raved about Stevie Johnson's quickness and deceptiveness and the way he creates separation.

It's nice to see that Kapernick is getting some work in with his secondary receivers in camp, but considering how he's struggled to see the entire field and find his other options on the field during a game, it's difficult to buy into any hype that Johnson gets. Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis are the primary targets, but when the hot receiver is covered, Kaepernick usually throws it away or runs it himself. How is Johnson supposed to gain targets if that part of Kaepernick's game doesn't change?ANALYST: Howard Bender

The White Sox recalled Daniel Webb from Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox play a doubleheader on Thursday, so they'll bring up Webb as their 26th man and get a little bullpen depth. He doesn;t have any fantasy value though and will likely head back to Triple-A Charlotte immediately following the games. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jets WR Brandon Marshall feels healthy and is excited about his new team and the upcoming season.

Well that all sounds well and good now but let's wait and hear the chronic complainer after he's taken part in OTAs and minicamp and realizes that he doesn't have a legitimate quarterback throwing him the ball. The oft-injured receiver definitely has something left in the tank, but whether the Jets can get it out of him this season is another story. Analysis: Howard Bender

Some Bulls players didn't endorse Tom Thibodeau's return.

Like any other situation in any sport, not every player on the team is always a big fan of the coach. It sounds like the Bulls are in need of a coaching change and that seems to be the way they've been viewing this offseason anyway. Thibodeau will likely move on. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jameis Winston will not be at Buccaneers OTA Thursday.

It was announced Tuesday that Winston will be flying to California on Wednesday night to attend the NFLPA’s Rookie Premiere event. He and another 39 highly drafted rookies will be in attendance. With OTAs lasting about two weeks, Winston should make it back for some of the work. Analysis: Howard Bender

Ryan Brett was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list, and optioned to Triple-A Durham.

Brett will continue to serve as depth in minors and could potentially receive a call-up if the Rays are dealing with any long-term injuries in the infield. He does not have any fantasy value at this time though. Analysis: Howard Bender

Klay Thompson must complete concussion protocol to be cleared for the NBA Finals. Klay couldn't drive home Wednesday night and threw up a couple times when he got home.

Thompson took a knee to the ear from Trevor Ariza and was bleeding from it and dizzy as well. The finals are still about a week away, so he does have plenty of time to get better. Analysis: Howard Bender

There was no news yesterday as the 10-day window closed for the NFL and NFLPA to schedule Tom Brady’s appeal hearing, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports. However, it was a soft deadline, as the two sides could agree to bypass the deadline if they desired.

Well then why even mention the deadline if it's not firm. Stuff like this gets put off all the time for whatever reason. We'll get it all settled before the regular season starts and it will hopefully be taken care of in time for your fantasy draft. If not, then you have to go in with the assumption that Brady could, in fact, be suspended for the full four games. Analysis: Howard Bender

David Ortiz (rest) is unlikely to play Thursday.

Ortiz is in the midst of a five-game, 1-for-20 slump right now and could stand to get a break here to clear his head. There's nothing physically wrong, so expect him back in the lineup Friday. Analysis: Howard Bender

Joseph Randle has received a majority of first-team reps at this week's OTAs.

As expected, the Cowboys are looking at Randle as their primary running back. Darren McFadden is a third down/change-of-pace back at best, but the team knows they need to rely on someone who can take it between the tackles. Expect this trend to continue through the summer. Analysis: Howard Bender

Joely Rodriguez could be an option to join the Phillies' rotation if Sean O'Sullivan continues to struggle,

Hard to say why Rodriguez would be such a strong candidate considering his struggles at the Triple-A level so far. In his first turn at this level, he's sporting a 5.18 ERA with a lousy 4.44 K/9 over 48 2/3 innings and those numbers aren't likely to improve with an increase in level. He definitely looks like he could use a significant amount of time more down in the minors. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Red Sox are looking for an opportunity to give Brian Johnson his major league debut.

Johnson has a 2.92 ERA and 8.76 K/9 over 49 1/3 innings here in his first go-around with Triple-A Pawtucket. While the Red Sox would like to give him a taste of the majors, they'd obviously prefer to have a stronger rotation and not need to dip into their farm system as much as they have already. Steven Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez are getting a look right now. Should they fail and the struggles at the back end of the rotation continue, then perhaps we'll see Johnson at some point. Analysis: Howard Bender

Justin Masterson (shoulder) threw an extended bullpen session Wednesday and hopes to make a rehab start this weekend or early next week.

Masterson says the soreness has dissipated, but he will still make a few rehab starts in the minors before he gets called back up again. The Red Sox don't necessarily want to take a long time with him, but they feel like they have to. Analysis: Howard Bender

Klay Thompson scored 20 points (8-14 FGA) going 4-for-6 from three-point range with one rebound, four assists and one steal against the Rockets on Wednesday.

Thompson logged his second straight 20-point performance to help give the Warriors the edge on their way to the NBA finals. He is now averaging 19.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.0 three-pointers this postseason as he continues to have the best season of his young career.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Stephen Curry scored 26 points (7-21 FGA, 9-12 FTA) going 3-for-11 from three-point range with eight rebounds, six assists and five steals against the Rockets on Wednesday.

Curry once again stole the spotlight on Wednesday night as he helped lead the Warriors to a matchup against the Cavaliers for the NBA Championship. The reigning NBA MVP is now averaging 29.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 4.9 three-pointers through 15 postseason games as he continues to be unstoppable and on a mission. Analysis: Matthew Beck
