49ers WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) passed his physical and has been cleared to practice Thursday.

Johnson was acquired from the Bills during the NFL draft and will likely slot behind Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree on the 49ers depth chart. Johnson put together three straight 1,000 yard seasons for the Bills before being limited to just 12 games for the Bills last season due to injury.ANALYST: Jonathan Impemba

Tim Hudson threw live batting practice for the first time this spring. He is expected to debut in a week.

Hudson was behind schedule as of a few weeks ago, but it seems as though he's finally on the right track. If he is able to get into game action next week, he should be ready for the start of the regular season. At age 39, Hudson still has some gas left in the tank, but his big strikeout days are long over. Analysis: David Kerr

Charlie Morton (hip) says he felt "no pain" in his first outing.

Morton is working his way back from hip surgery and is currently on track to be part of the Pirates' rotation when the season starts. On Thursday, Morton was able to throw two scoreless innings while striking out one. Assuming he can stay healthy throughout spring training, he is a fine late round flyer. Analysis: David Kerr

The Raiders have released DE LaMarr Woodley.

After racking up 44 Sacks in 57 games from 2008-2011, Woodley hasn't been the same disruptive force. In fact, Woodley has only recorded nine sacks in his last 30 games over the last three years. Last year was, by all measures, the worst of Woodley's career, as he only recorded five tackles and zero sacks in six games during his brief tenure with the Raiders. Analysis: Brad Costilo

Brandon Flowers is negotiating a contract to remain with the Chargers.

After leaving the Kansas City Chiefs in search of a larger contract in the 2014 pre-season, Flowers ended up having a solid season with the Chargers (52 Tackles, three Interceptions, 10 passes defended and one Safety in 14 games played).  Analysis: Brad Costilo

Angels Mike Trout said he's going to try to be more aggressive early in the count this year.

After being one of, if not THE, most productive player in all of baseball since breaking out in his 2012 rookie-of-the-year campaign in which Trout his .326 with 30 Home Runs, 49 Stolen Bases, 83 RBIs and 129 Runs Scored. His career stat-line compares favorably with the greatest players who have ever played the game, .305 average, 98 Home Runs, 102 Stolen Bases (only caught stealing 14 times), 373 Runs Scored and 307 RBIs in 493 games played. If Trout does figure out a way to become more productive, it will be downright unfair. Analysis: Brad Costilo

Maurice Jones-Drew has announced his retirement from the NFL.

The long-time Jaguars running back compiled 11,111 total yards from scrimmage (only 167 of which are from his one season in Oakland in 2014), 79 TDs (all with Jacksonville). Unfortunately, MJD was never the same after suffering a Lisfranc injury in 2012 which required surgery, which was only one year after he lead the NFL in rushing with 1,606 yards.  Analysis: Brad Costilo
