GM Brian Cashman said Wednesday that Masahiro Tanaka is still feeling discomfort in his pitching elbow despite not having picked up a baseball since receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection 10 days ago.
This is certainly not good news. While Cashman said that the elbow has improved, the fact that it is still bothering him is a bad sign. While the discomfort may partially be due to the platelet-rich plasma injection, it shouldn't still be bothering him. Tanaka was scheduled to throw in two weeks, but that plan may change now. The Yankees will be fortunate to have their rookie pitcher back by mid-September, though that is not looking likely at this point. ANALYST: Ben Diamond
Scott Baker's next start will either be Friday or Saturday.
With Brandon McCarthy now out for the balance of the season, Baker will try to solidify a role in the Dodger rotation. He pitched well in his first start this year, but gave up a pair of homers that led to him taking the loss against the Padres on Sunday. It did not help his cause that the Dodgers only managed to score one run behind him. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
