Alex Gordon (Wrist) has returned to the Royals lineup on Friday.

Gordon missed the final four games of the first half with a wrist issue, but the time off for the All Star break has obviously afforded him an opportunity to recuperate. He is back in left field and will bat fifth in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox.ANALYST: Howard Bender

Update: Rusney Castillo is out with sore right shoulder Wednesday, suffered while making a diving catch. Manager John Farrell said Castillo couldn't get loose.

Well that would explain the deviation from the original plan that Castillo would play the final two games of this series. Injuries are beginning to rally be an issue with Castillo, so maybe pump the brakes on your eagerness to acquire him. Analysis: Howard Bender

Eduardo Rodriguez will start Thursday in Texas for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox were considering bringing Rodriguez up in late April when Wade Miley was struggling but now they may consider him a potential replacement for the nightmare that is Joe Kelly. He'll start Thursday to stay on his regular throwing schedule and this may only be a spot start/audition, but keep an eye on him especially if there's a chance he joins the rotation. Analysis: Howard Bender

Wil Myers (wrist) is improving but not close to returning.

It's not so much that he isn't close to returning, it's that the Padres are being very cautious with him and have not set a timetable for him to start swinging a bat. Once he does start, it might not be too long before he lands on a rehab assignment. The team is hoping for an early-to-mid June return, but we'll just have to wait and see. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jake Smolinski has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

With the need for another arm in the bullpen, the Rangers will send Smolinski down in favor of reliever Jon Edwards. With Josh Hamilton being activated, Smolinski becomes the expendable outfielder. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jon Edwards has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

The Rangers bullpen is in need of a fresh arm, so they'll bring Edwards up, likely for a very short time. There is no fantasy value to be had here. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Mets indicated Vic Black is ready to be activated from the disabled list, it's just a matter of when the front office will complete the transaction.

Apparently we're a full go here as the velocity and command are solid. The Mets just have to figure out what they want to do with their roster and exactly what role Black will play in the bullpen. He could be a source for holds soon enough but he might need a week or two to get warmed-up. Analysis: Howard Bender

Grant Balfour has opted out of his minor league contract and was released by the team on Wednesday.

The Rays weren't calling him up anytime soon, so they'll let him go. He may pick up elsewhere is he proves he can pitch better than he has been, but that might be a ways away. Analysis: Howard Bender

Adrian Peterson is not at Vikings' OTA's Wednesday.

There are a few moving parts here. First off, he's not at OTAs because he is unhappy with the fact that the team did not support him last season and he is either pushing for a trade or a renegotiated contract with guaranteed money beyond the 2015 season. The team has already stated that they won't trade him and it seems unlikely that they would give him a new deal prior to him sitting all of last season. While Peterson is not required to be at OTAs, he does receive a bonus if he is present for 90-percent of the OTA activities. That, apparently, is not enough of an incentive or a cure for his hurt feelings. We should see some nice drama here in the offseason, but he is still going to play and be an every-down back for the Vikings this year.  Analysis: Howard Bender
