Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy was found guilty of assault on his girlfriend and making threats to her. He was sentenced to 18-months probation, but will appeal the ruling.

Can't these guys just stay out of trouble? Domestic violence should result in more than just probation, but high-priced lawyers often work wonders. Hardy will be facing a suspension, so the appeals process is being done to delay that.ANALYST: David Kerr

Rays have been working Nick Franklin at first base the last couple of days.

Franklin was also recently seen working in the outfield as well as the Rays look for ways to get his bat into their lineup despite the fact that he is hitting a putrid .091 through 33 at bats this season. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Kelly Johnson (oblique) has began taking batting practice and doing defensive drills this week.

While the news is great for Johnson and the Braves he remains without a timetable for his return and will need to go on a rehab stint before activation. Johnson is enjoying his first year in Atlanta, hitting .259 with 11 runs, six home runs and 18 RBI over his first 28 games. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Diamondbacks acquired C Wellington Castillo, RHP Dominic Leone, INF Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabby Guerrero from the Mariners for Mark Trumbo and Vidal Nuño.

The biggest name in this deal is Castillo as the Diamondbacks had a glaring hole at the catcher position with news that Tuffy Gosewisch would miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL and only Jordan Pacheco and Jarrod Saltalamacchia on the roster. Castillo was just recently acquired by the Mariners from the Cubs.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Mariners have acquired Mark Trumbo from the Diamondbacks.

Trumbo was enjoying a decent season with the Diamondbacks. hitting .259 with 23 runs, nine home runs and 23 RBI. The biggest issue with him is that he is a major liability in the outfield so the trade back into the American League will allow him to see time at both first base which he played while with the Angels and DH. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Matt Shoemaker will pitch out of the bullpen for the next few days.

Shoemaker will head to the bullpen as the Angels will not need to use five starts with the way their upcoming schedule works with days off built in. After a disastrous start to his season Shoemaker has allowed just one earned run over his last two outings and will look to build upon that success should he be called upon while in the pen. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Matt Albers had pins removed from pinky and is rehabbing his finger.

Albers has appeared in four games for the White Sox this season before getting injury, allowing one earned run over 5.2 innings while striking out five. He will need to go on a rehab stint before returning to the White Sox bullpen. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Manager Bud Bud Black indicated Wil Myers (wrist) is at least a week away from a rehab assignment.

Myers is only taking batting practice right now, but could appear in an extended spring training game soon and then head out on a rehab assignment. The Padres are hoping for a return by the middle of the month. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jonathan Schoop (knee) is now playing in extended spring training games.

The Orioles are optimistically hoping that Schoop, who is recovering from a torn PCL and MCL, will be able to return before the end of the month. His participation in extended spring training games is extremely encouraging and if all goes well in the next few days, he could start a rehab assignment soon. Analysis: Howard Bender

Matt Wieters (elbow) will make his return on Friday in Cleveland.

It's been a long and arduous road to recovery for Wieters but it looks like the Orioles will finally bring him up. He won't take over the full-time role immediately as the team is happy to let Caleb Joseph continue to play a prominent role behind the plate. Analysis: Howard Bender

Hector Olivera is set to play his first minor league game on Thursday with Double-A Tulsa.

The Dodgers believe that Olivera can and will make a strong impact at the major league level and would like to get him started now with an eye on a second half call-up. There's no set timetable for his impending arrival, but if he starts off hot, don't expect him to stay in Double-A for long. Analysis: Howard Bender

Pedro Baez (pectoral) is throwing pain-free on flat ground.

Baez will be moved up to a mound session soon and from there, live batting practice. He is expected to return to the Dodgers bullpen sometime later this month. Analysis: Howard Bender

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) will start a rehab assignment Thursday with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

At long last there's finally talk of Puig getting started on a rehab assignment. He's taken live batting practice and finally run the bases, but it's not exactly known how many games the Dodgers want him to get while down on the farm. They'll likely formulate a more set timetable after he plays a game or two. Analysis: Howard Bender

Bud Norris pitched four hitless innings at Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Norris could have gone longer, but the Orioles decided to shorten him up in this outing with the hope of having him start this Sunday. Given the results and the efficiency with which he pitched, Sunday looks like a real possibility now. Analysis: Howard Bender
