Red Sox were one of a few teams out to watch Cole Hamels earlier this week.
The Red Sox are out of contention, and perhaps working out a deal for Hamels is more appealing than resigning Jon Lester to a long-term deal. Hamels is owed $22.5 million/ year, so any team looking to add the southpaw will need deep pockets, and likely a deep farm as well. ANALYST:
Carl Crawford exited Monday night's game with tightness in his right side.
It was only a matter of time before the glass-made Crawford cracked in some capacity. It's unknown whether or not he'll need a DL stint to rid him of the tightness, but if he does Scott Van Slyke and Alex Guerrero are likely to fill in for him. Guerrero has been among the hottest hitters in baseball, in a limited role, and would become mixed league relevant if/when he finds himself in the lineup. Don Mattingly, however, doesn't appear to be Guerrero's biggest fan. Let's hope he's not pigeon-holed to pinch-hitting duties. Analysis: Spencer Silva
