Hisashi Iwakuma got the win Saturday after giving up two runs on five hits while striking out eight over 8.2 innings of work against the Athletics.
Kuma came a Brandon Moss two-out two-run home run in the top of the ninth from walking away with his first career complete game and complete game shutout which would have come against an A's team that owns the best record in MLB. Safe to say Iwakuma is back and with the long break ahead of him he should come back refreshed and ready to provide fantasy owners with plenty more outings like this one.ANALYST: Michael Pichan
Kendrys Morales went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI in the Royals 9-4 win over the Indians on Monday.
It’s more than likely that outside of AL Only leagues Kendrys Morales was not even drafted this year as he was signed in the offseason to replace Billy Butler who had departed for Oakland. Those who did draft Morales or were able to snag him off the waiver wire have been rewarded with one of the biggest surprises of the season as he finds himself among the league leaders with 68 RBI to go with 43 runs, 12 home runs and a .287 batting average. Prior to his devastating ankle injury which nearly costed him his career back in 2010 Kendrys was one of the best up young first basemen in the game and while now at 32 he has proven that he can still be a very productive middle of the lineup bat. Matt Wieters went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the Orioles 2-1 extra innings win over the Braves on Monday.
Wieters collected three hits on Monday but it was his walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning that made the biggest impact. It has a been a tough season for Wieters as he started the year on the DL as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery and has now recently dealt with some back issues which has the Orioles looking for alternative ways to keep his bat in the lineup while limiting how many games he catches. There were some reports that Wieters was fielding ground balls at first base so it’s possible that could be an option later in the year. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
