Domonic Brown went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in the eighth inning in Thursday's win over the Brewers.
With Grady Sizemore lurking on the Phillies bench, Brown has been starting to perform better over his last three games, registering five RBI and two runs scored. However, he is still sitting on a .224 average with only six home runs and 44 RBI, so unless he either finds his power stroke or starts hitting for a better average he is in serious danger of losing at-bats in the second half of the season. Antonio Smith may sit out practice this week.
Smith is the subject of a child abuse investigation in Texas. The case has been dragging on for some time now, with the DA sifting through the report from the Fort Bend County Sheriff since February. Even if the case is ultimately dropped by the prosecutor, Smith could still face discipline from the league as part of its effort to improve its public image, as part of the personal conduct policy under the CBA between the players union and the league. Avisail Garcia left Monday's game with a knee injury.
Garcia left after less than two innings of action on Monday. He was coming off a knee issue that held him out two games before playing again on Sunday, where he went 1-for-2 with a strikeout. A problem significant to force him from the game, occurring with the same body part that sidelined him last week is of concern, so stay tuned for an update on his situation. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
