Domonic Brown went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in the eighth inning in Thursday's win over the Brewers.
With Grady Sizemore lurking on the Phillies bench, Brown has been starting to perform better over his last three games, registering five RBI and two runs scored. However, he is still sitting on a .224 average with only six home runs and 44 RBI, so unless he either finds his power stroke or starts hitting for a better average he is in serious danger of losing at-bats in the second half of the season. The Dodgers have traded LHP Xavier Cedeno to the Rays for cash.
The Dodgers had designated Cedeno for assignment to make room on their 40-man roster for Sergio Santos. Cedeno has a 5.24 ERA in 55 career big-league innings across five seasons. He has 8.84 K/9 over his career, but he needs to cut back on the walks if he is ever going to have a meaningful bullpen role in the big leagues. The Rays have a deep bullpen that is only going to get deeper when Jake McGee returns, and there is little chance Cedeno makes an impact this season. Analysis: Steve Pimental
The Celtics are willing to trade a first rounder to dump Gerald Wallace.
Wallace played just 32 games this season for a Celtics team largely devoid of talent. The Celtics have a couple of first-rounders to spare, but that still seems like a high price to pay just to get rid of him. Wallace is unlikely to play much wherever he ends up, but it is always possible a change of scenery could be just what he needs. Wallace and a pick could be an enticing package for the Knicks and Lakers, both teams with cap space desperately in need of warm bodies and draft picks. Wallace could even have fringe fantasy value with one of those teams. Analysis: Steve Pimental
