Blue Jays have said Gavin Floyd is expected to compete for a spot in the rotation.
The Blue Jays have a number of rotation options to sift through this spring but it seems like Marcus Stroman, R.A. Dickey, Marco Estrada and J.A. Happ are locked into the top four slots. That means Floyd will have to out-pitch Drew Hutchison, Jesse Chavez, Scott Copeland, Brad Penny and Roberto Hernandez (the ex-Fausto Carmona guy, not the old reliever). It's not exactly a daunting task for most, but considering Floyd is dealing with a rebuilt arm here, his chances are actually lower than most to succeed. It will be something to track during the spring, but you'd be hard-pressed to trust and of these fifth-starter candidates in a hitter's haven like Toronto. Analysis: Howard Bender
