Ian Desmond went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Orioles on Wednesday.
Desmond has now hit safely in five out the last six games and has 16 home runs and 54 RBI on the year. While most people will sit there and complain about his .240 average, the production and value you're getting from him at the shortstop position vastly outweighs his average or his high strikeout total, especially if your league doesn't even penalize for strikeouts. Wandy Rodriguez allowed just one run on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings against the Angels on Friday.
Sigh. He’s like that bad penny you just can’t get rid of, no matter how hard you try. Just when you think Major League teams have had enough of him and his boring mediocrity, someone goes and brings good ol’ Wandy back from the dead. It’s difficult to imagine that he’ll last long with the Rangers, especially with the number of home runs he normally allows, but consider this the warning to stay away. This start may not look bad on the surface, but it’s just setting you up for something downright horrible in the future. He’ll get another start next week against the Mariners, but we cannot, in good conscience, recommend using him. Analysis: Howard Bender
