Update: The Cubs send Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the Athletics for Addison Russell, per sources. There may be other players and teams also involved.
Wow. Just wow. Despite the long-term potential for Russell, this is a win-now move for the A's who have now crushed it with regard to their pitching staff. Even with Sonny Gray possibly having his innings capped, the A's have three bona fide starters to work with heading into the playoffs. Interesting move for the Cubs who are now ridiculously loaded int he middle infield with Russell, Starlin Castro and Javier Baez. Initial thought is that they could turn themselves into immediate candidates for the David Price sweepstakes which, heading into next year, would certainly be an upgrade for their pitching staff. In truth, there are so many possibilities here, it's almost scary.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Panthers WR Stephen Hill cited for drug paraphernalia possession.
It doesn't sound like we're dealing with a major felony here, so don;t expect much on the legal front. He could, however, be punished by the league for the incident and given the fact that he's a fringe candidate for the Panthers' 53-man roster, he could find himself out of a job opportunity. Expect the Panthers to make a decision on his status soon. Analysis: Howard Bender
Angels manager Mike Scioscia confirms Mike Trout's MRI was normal.
Trout is dealing with a sore left wrist and is considered day-to-day. Trout may miss another game or two, but shouldn't be out for a significant time which is great news for fantasy owners as we approach the stretch run of the fantasy baseball season. For the season, Trout is having another MVP season with a slash line of .315/.405/.632 with 31 homeruns, 64 RBIs, 75 runs and 10 stolen bases. Analysis: Phil Backert
