The Athletics are discussing a deal with the Cubs involving Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.
Theo Epstein has already come out and said that his preference is to trade Hammel before Samardzija,m though the Shark's strikeout potential makes him a more attractive candidate for most teams. Still, Hammel with the A's would be an outstanding match and one that should send fantasy owners to the waiver wire to pick him up immediately if it happens. He's pitched well wherever he's gone and while last season was a down one for him with the Orioles, he could join Oakland in his first pitcher-friendly home park and do wonders for the middle of that rotation. Jose Reyes has been traded to the Colorado Rockies.
Reyes is going to the Rockies along with prospects in the trade sending Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto. While going to Coors Field is always good for a hitter, Reyes will now bat in a depleted lineup with the pitcher in front of him. He is still a top-five fantasy shortstop when healthy, but this trade is not likely to provide a huge boost to his fantasy value. There is also a pretty decent chance Reyes is traded again, which could hurt his fantasy value even further. Analysis: Steve Pimental
The Astros remain in pursuit of Tyson Ross.
Any trade would be borderline disastrous for Tyson Ross's fantasy value, but going to the American league would only make things worse. Ross has walked 4.18 batters per nine innings this season, and it is doubtful he could get away with that outside of PETCO Park. If you own Ross, it may be worth it to try to trade him now.
