Mark Teixeira went 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a run scored against the Twins on Friday.
Still troubled by the knee issues, Tex has at least hit safely in his last two games after sitting out and seems healthy enough to keep this going at a reasonable rate. He knocked in his 42 RBI of the season in this one and has 15 homers and six doubles on the year. He's certainly not the Tex of old, but he's still offering some decent contribution in the counting stats.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Cubs sent Addison Russell to minor-league camp.
The third of the Cubs prized prospects will start the season in the minors but is expected to make an impact this season. People have ignored his terrific spring because of all the attention paid to his teammate Kris Bryant. Russell is batted nearly .400 with three doubles in Catcus League action. Analysis: Drew Phelps
Cubs sent Kris Bryant to minor-league camp.
The entire Fantasy Baseball world shed a tear on Monday as this news broke. Players were all holding out hope that the Cubs would let him start the season with the big club especially after crushing nine home runs in Spring Training. Now, we all have to listen to speculation over and over and over again about when he will get the call. If you drafted him in the 2nd round, good luck getting a full return on that investment. Cubs optioned Javier Baez to Triple-A Iowa.
This news does not come as a shock to anyone. Baez had a less than stellar spring, where he struck out in exactly a quarter of his 20 at-bats. Cubs were hoping to see more this spring after he mostly failed to do so over 229 plate appearances last season. He posted a marginal .551 OPS. Analysis: Drew Phelps
Reds released LHP Paul Maholm.
Maholm was pulled from contention for a spot in the Reds' rotation in mid-March and he was not going to end up in the bullpen. The southpaw should be able to find work pretty quickly but you should not count on him being on an Opening Day roster. Analysis: Drew Phelps
Panthers signed RB Jordan Todman to a 1-year deal.
You would think a team with Denard Robinson and Toby Gerhart at the top of their running back depth chart would want to hold onto any running back. Jordan Todman was felt to be expendable by Jacksonville. Todman will battle for a spot in the Panthers backfield behind Jonathan Stewart. He will also have a chance to be the primary kick returner.
