Update: Twins placed Joe Mauer on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.
Depending on the severity and how long Mauer says this has been an issue, we could at least have an answer for the exceptionally poor performance this year. You couldn't expect that Mauer would suddenly start hitting for power with the move to first base, but you had every right to think you'd be seeing somewhere around 600 at-bats with a high average. Now you're not getting either as he has struggled all year. The move to the DL is good for fantasy owners as it will expedite the move away from using Mauer. Name-recognition is not going to win you a championship, and you've been using him because of who he is for too long.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Prince Fielder went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI against Houston on Tuesday.
Good news. Fielder is making contact more regularly than he ever has. Bad news. Fielder is being less patient than he ever has. Good news. Fielder isn’t pounding the ball into the ground as often as he did in a short stint last year. Bad news. Fielder isn’t elevating balls out of the park. The good news is obviously good, but the bad news probably outweighs the good. Fielder needs to hit for power to have lasting value. Analysis: Brett Talley
Luis Valbuena went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against Texas on Tuesday.
Valbuena hit a bomb of an upper-deck shot off Wandy Rodriguez. It was a bit of a surprise coming off a left-hander as Valbuena struggles against left-handers and often sits against them. But it was a good example of Valbuena’s power as he now has seven home runs. His BABIP is an impossibly low .188, yet he’s still been six percent better than league average according to wRC+. When the BABIP turns around, he should have some average to go along with the power. Analysis: Brett Talley
