Garrett Richards won again Tuesday as the Angels defeated the White Sox in game one of their double-header. He allowed three runs and two walks with nine strikeouts over eight innings.
Richards remains undefeated over his last six starts (5-0) with an overall record of 9-2 in 17 starts. He held the White Sox to just two hits with their three runs coming off a Jose Abreu three-run home run in the first inning. Opponents are now hitting just .194 against the young righty, which is tops among AL qualified pitchers and second best in MLB behind Reds Johnny Cueto's .171 oppBA. ANALYST: Michael Pichan
Joakim Soria will throw a bullpen session Thursday.
Soria was acquired last season by the Tigers as an insurance policy for the struggling Joe Nathan but he found himself getting injured just six games after being acquired which forced him to miss more than a month. In 13 games with the Tigers last season Soria went 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA after posting a 2.70 ERA with the Rangers prior to the trade. The Tigers expect Nathan to be their closer heading into the season which will mean Soria will once again be in a set up role. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
