Fantasy Player Updates & News

Norichika Aoki (groin) will likely need more time than the minimum to make his return from the disabled list.

Before the season started, I was high on Aoki and a fourth or fifth outfielder, but he has been mostly disappointing. With no home runs and just seven steals, his stat line is quite empty. If he can heat up when he returns, he could be an asset down the stretch, but if his first half is any indication, that isn't likely.ANALYST: David Kerr

Stephen Strasburg exited in the third inning of Tuesday night's game due to an unknown reason. The team trainer had visited the mound the inning prior.

Strasburg continues to disappoint and destroy DFS lineups. His BABIP and strand rate have been quite unlucky so far, but his strikeout rate is also down quite a bit, so his struggles are somewhat his fault. We'll update his status when we can. Analysis: Brett Talley

It's official, Mike Conley will start Tuesday night against the Warriors.

He's gone from doubtful to questionable to trying to start to actually starting. Quite the day for Mike Conley news. Analysis: Brett Talley

Angel Pagan (laceration) has been scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup.

Pagan apparently caught a spike while sliding on Monday night and has a cracked fingernail. Considering he was in the original starting lineup, he probably won't miss too much more time. Gregor Blanco is in center and Justin Maxwell is getting a start in Pagan's absence. Analysis: Brett Talley

Austin Hedges will make his first big-league start on Wednesday.

Hedges was hitting .324 in 79 plate appearances in Triple-A before getting called up. But in over 500 PA at Double-A between 2013 and 2014, Hedges hits just .225. He might have a tiny bit of pop,but his real calling card is his defense, which isn't useful to fantasy owners. Analysis: Brett Talley

Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle thinks Andrew McCutchen's knee will be fine.

This is an odd time for this news to come across as the Pirates were playing at the time of this blurb. But McCutchen hasn't missed a game since he aggravated his knee sliding on Friday night. Maybe he'll get a day of rest if it's bothering him, but apparently it's not too serious. Analysis: Brett Talley

Mike Conley will reportedly "try to start" tonight.

This follows the report from earlier today where Conley was upgraded from doubtful. Conley hasn't played since taking an elbow to the face in Game 3 of Round 1. Analysis: Brett Talley

According to Padres Manager Bud Black, Derek Norris could start taking ground balls at first base soon.

This move makes plenty of sense as the Padres just promoted top catching prospect Austin Hedges to their major league roster. Hedges is a superior defensive catcher compared to Norris and should be a capable hitter at the major league level. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Recently recalled outfielder Eddie Rosario was held out of Tuesday's lineup because Manager Paul Molitor wants him to get "acclimated" to the major leagues.

Rosario was ranked the the No.60 prospect in baseball prior to the 2014 season but fell out of the Top 100 heading into 2015 and was hitting just .242 at Triple-A Rochester at the time of his promotion. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Neil Ramirez (shoulder) will throw off a mound Wednesday.

Ramirez is coming off an outstanding rookie season where he went 3-3 with a 1.44 ERA over 43.2 innings out of the Cubs bullpen but was injured after five games this season and played on the DL. His return would bring a huge boost to the Cubs bullpen. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

John Jaso (wrist) has not yet resumed baseball activities.

Jaso was placed on the 60-day DL with his wrist injury so his return was not happening any time soon but the fact that he's yet to resume baseball activities does not bode well for his season.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Jeff Samardzija is expected to drop his appeal of suspension following the Tigers series.

Samardzija was handed a five game suspension for his role in the White Sox and Royals bench clearing brawl a few weeks back. His suspension will cost him one start so fantasy owners will want to plan accordingly. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Devin Mesoraco (hip) will get at-bats as the designated hitter this weekend.

Mesoraco's hip injury has kept him sidelined as he's unable to catch but the move to the American League for a series will allow the Reds to get his bat into the lineup without doing further damage to his hip by playing the field. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Chris Capuano (quad) will likely move his rehab assignment from Class A Tampa to Double-A Trenton on Thursday.

The level of competition is not the goal of a rehab assignment as teams will often move players around to get the right amount of work in. It's expected that when Capuano does return he will enter the rotation but a final decision on his role has yet to be determined. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Seahawks have waived T Justin Renfrow, DE Julius Warmsley, C Jared Wheeler and FB Mike Zimmer.

These moves will open up roster spots for the Seahawks to sign their draft picks. Neither made any impact last season nor do they have any fantasy significance.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Ray’s Ramblings: Baseball Bums

A bum is a lazy or shiftless person. There certainly seem to be a lot of major league players – like Mesoraco and Rendon – that fit that bill through a month of action.
