Ervin Santana picked up the win in game one of Saturday's double-header against the Phillies after allowing two runs with a walk and five strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
Big Erv put an end to his three game losing streak as he improved to 6-5 in 15 starts on the season. The win was Santana's first in five June starts and just the second time in nine starts that he allowed fewer than three earned runs. The 31-year old righty will face the DBacks, (the only other team besides the Phillies that he held to fewer than three runs over his last nine games), at home on Friday in his next start.ANALYST: Michael Pichan
Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
