Cleveland officially names David Blatt the new head coach.

The 20-year veteran of European basketball coaching bring his style and know-how to NBA and should make for a nice fit as the Cavs are in a rebuilding stage anyway. New coach, new team, new attitude....probably pretty similar regulars. ANALYST: Howard Bender

NaVorro Bowman is not suited up for the 49ers first padded practice.

Bowman missed the entire 2014 season with a knee injury but is expected to be ready to play during training camp and should be suiting up on Week 1 to help a 49ers defense that took a hit this offseason. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Chris Withrow (elbow) has been playing catch but remains a few weeks away from beginning a rehab assignment.

Withrow continues his rehab from Tommy John surgery which he underwent last year. Withrow appeared in 20 games in 2014, allowing seven earned runs over 21.1 innings while striking out 28. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

A.J. Griffin (shoulder) is feeling better but is still not throwing.

The A's aren't contending this season and Griffin has yet to begin throwing so it seems unlikely we see him on a mound this year unless he begins to progress rapidly.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Matt Joyce (concussion) took batting practice Tuesday.

The Angels acquired three outfielders around the trade deadline to add depth due to the struggles of Joyce this season. When he passes the league's concussion protocol he will likely fall back into a playtoon with the Angels. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Mason Williams will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured right shoulder Friday.

Williams was once a top rated prospect in the Yankees system which includes being ranked as the 32nd best prospect by Baseball America back in 2013. He made his MLB debut this season for the Yankees, hitting .286 with three runs, one home run and three RBI over eight games. In the minors this season Williams hit .318 with 67 runs, 22 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
