Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 17th save after throwing a perfect ninth inning and preserving the Phillies' 4-1 win over the Cardinals on Thursday.
Papelbon tossed his second perfect inning in a row Thursday and is building another scoreless inning streak after Monday's misstep. In fact, Monday's poor showing was just his first run allowed over his last 16 appearances. That's only going to see his value skyrocket amongst teams looking for closers this year as the rumors pile up with potential trade possibilities.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Stephen Piscotty went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday’s 6-4 loss to the Cubs.
Things definitely looked promising for the Cardinals when Piscotty gave the team an early 2-0 lead with with one swing of the bat in the top of the first inning. However, the offense largely dried up for the Cardinals after that and their season is now done. Piscotty was simply outstanding in this NLDS, going 6-for-16 with three homers, a double, six RBI and five runs scored. The sweet-swinging rookie has quickly made a name for himself in St. Louis and around the league. Analysis: Nate Miller
Ravens cut CB Rashaan Melvin on Tuesday.
Melvin started some games late last year for Baltimore, including some playoff games. But after being injured in the preseason and getting benched at halftime of Week 3, he just lost favor with the coaching staff. This isn't your run-of-the-mill no name being cut, so the Ravens are shaking things up a bit. Analysis: Brett Talley
