Michael Pineda (shoulder) will begin a throwing program on Saturday.
A season that started out with much promise has gone down in flames. It was reported last week that Pineda would be out until at least August. Given his track record, that could easily mean that he will be out for the season. Before jumping the gun on Pineda's demise, it would only be proper to see if he can handle a throwing program. We should know Pineda's season status within weeks.ANALYST: David Kerr
Nationals placed Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list with neck tightness.
Something had to be wrong with Strasburg, given his season-long struggles. He has not shown his usual control with his off-speed pitches and needs to get healthy to return to his expected dominant self, and the DL trip is a start in that direction. There is no hint that the neck issue has been the cause of his problems this season, but at least he gets to take some time off to be examined and hopefully set on track to pitch well again. Grizzlies are exploring signing center Greg Oden.
Oden, the former first overall draft pick in the 2007 draft, last played for the Heat in 2014. Knee injuries have interrupted his career, limiting him to two seasons with Portland and the aforementioned time with Miami. He may decide to attend the upcoming Grizzly free agent camp in June, but nothing is in concrete yet. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
