Patriots TE D.J. Williams has not been participating during organized team activities because of a strained calf, but he expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

Obviously Rob Gronkowski is the top tight end but given Tom Brady's unhappiness with his receiving corps and the way the Patriots like to use a two-tight end formation, Williams could see an increased role this season. The other option is Michael Hoomanawanui, so the two will compete at camp for the "back-up" job.ANALYST: Howard Bender

Damond Powell (face) was waived from the Non-Football Injury list Tuesday and placed on Reserve/Injured Wednesday.

Powell was shot in the face Friday night outside his Ohio home. Thankfully, his injuries are not life threatening, but he cannot be counted on to play for the Cardinals this season. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Panthers waived RB Darrin Reaves.

As an undrafted rookie in 2014, he had 78 yards on 31 carries. He also had five receptions for another 31 yards, not necessarily the stuff that careers are based on, and he was let go to make room for additional bodies at the O-line position, notably Tony Hills and Davonte Wallace. Analysis: Ivar G. Pablo Sandoval was dehydrated, which is why he left Thursday's game.

It was actually Wednesday's game that he left. The Red Sox could use newly acquired Josh Rutledge in place of Sandoval if he needs another game or two to recover. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
