Randall Grichuk went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a walk during the Cardinals' 5-0 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Grichuk's playing time has been spotty, at best and with the call-up of Oscar Taveras, it's not like to get any better. So while seeing him hit his first home run was nice and all, it's doubtful that anyone had him active for today. Should there be a run of injuries for the Cardinals, he would see more consistent time, but until that happens, you can probably leave him be and let him sit on waivers.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Antonio Smith may sit out practice this week.
Smith is the subject of a child abuse investigation in Texas. The case has been dragging on for some time now, with the DA sifting through the report from the Fort Bend County Sheriff since February. Even if the case is ultimately dropped by the prosecutor, Smith could still face discipline from the league as part of its effort to improve its public image, as part of the personal conduct policy under the CBA between the players union and the league. Avisail Garcia left Monday's game with a knee injury.
Garcia left after less than two innings of action on Monday. He was coming off a knee issue that held him out two games before playing again on Sunday, where he went 1-for-2 with a strikeout. A problem significant to force him from the game, occurring with the same body part that sidelined him last week is of concern, so stay tuned for an update on his situation. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
