David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a walk during the Red Sox' 7-4 loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
Ortiz has been ice cold of late, but was able to get off the snide on Wednesday, now sitting on a .262 average with 13 home runs and 33 RBI through 206 at-bats. Despite a slow start to June (3-for-13), his most recent efforts should be enough to jump start the Red Sox slugger and get him moving back in the right direction. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
The Saints are reportedly trying to trade Curtis Lofton.
Even after they released Pierre Thomas Wednesday the Saints were still well over the salary cap, and trading Lofton would save New Orleans $5.25 million. Only the Raiders had a worse fantasy defense than the Saints last season, and while trading Lofton probably cannot hurt, it certainly will not help, either. Whichever defense gets Lofton will get a slight bump in fantasy value. Analysis: Steve Pimental
Placido Polanco said he is "90 percent" retired.
The 39-year-old Polanco did not play anywhere in 2014 after batting .260/.315/.302 in 118 games for the Marlins in 2013. Polanco left open the possibility to return to the Marlins, Phillies or Tigers, though if he really wants to win a World Series ring the Phillies are probably out. Some team would probably do well to make Polanco a minor league player/coach like the Cubs did with Manny Ramirez last season. Polanco would have NL-only value with the Phillies or Marlins, but it is hard to believe he could ever again be relevant in mixed leagues. Analysis: Steve Pimental
