Ian Desmond hammered his 10th homer of the season Friday, a three-run shot for his only hit in four at-bats of the Nationals 9-2 win over the Rangers.

Desmond hit his third home run over his last seven games and fifth of the month. The three RBI raised his total to 32 on the season to go with 24 runs scored and four stolen bases (two over his last seven games).ANALYST: Michael Pichan

Panthers waived RB Darrin Reaves.

As an undrafted rookie in 2014, he had 78 yards on 31 carries. He also had five receptions for another 31 yards, not necessarily the stuff that careers are based on, and he was let go to make room for additional bodies at the O-line position, notably Tony Hills and Davonte Wallace. Analysis: Ivar G. Pablo Sandoval was dehydrated, which is why he left Thursday's game.

It was actually Wednesday's game that he left. The Red Sox could use newly acquired Josh Rutledge in place of Sandoval if he needs another game or two to recover. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Tommy La Stella (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Tennessee this week.

La Stella has been out of action since April 8. Expect him to be on a lengthy rehab assignment as he gets ready to play again this season. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Willie Young (Achilles) has been cleared to participate in training camp.

He is only eight months out from surgery on his Achilles tendon, so this is a good sign for him. He is moving from DE to outside linebacker in the revamped Chicago defense, so he needs time on the practice field to adjust. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
