Glen Perkins picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Perkins is now 2-0 with 14 saves through his first 23.1 innings in 2014, owning a 3.09 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in that stretch. He has managed a 31:3 K:BB thus far, which has led to his early success, but he will need to start limiting his hits allowed before taking the next step in his progression as a top closer in the American League. Jed Lowrie left Monday's game with a thumb injury. He's going back to Houston Tuesday for an MRI.
In all likelihood Jonathan Villar or Marwin Gonzalez will fill in for Lowrie if he misses extended time, but there's an outside chance the first-place Astros call up uber-prospect Carlos Correa for his first major league taste. Correa is murdering the Texas League (Double-A) to the tune of .375/.429/.719 with four home runs and two stolen bases. He's worth a speculative add in competitive leagues until the situation becomes more clear. Astros GM Jeff Luhnow has hinted that he wouldn't be scared to "lift" Correa straight from Double-A at some point. Analysis: Spencer Silva
