David Ortiz will make the start at first base on Monday for the first time this season.

With a series in Atlanta kicking off on Monday, the Red Sox are expected to use their designated hitter at first base while playing in a National League ballpark. With Mike Napoli on the disabled list, the decision was made a lot easier for the Red Sox, although Ortiz may get an additional day off to keep Mike Carp fresh at first base. ANALYST: Matthew Beck

Dante Fowler had successful surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Fowler is done for the season with the injury, but it's nice to know that the procedure went well. The Jaguars 2015 first-round pick will now spend all of his time rehabbing with the Jaguars trainers with his sights set on the 2016 season. Analysis: Howard Bender

Red Sox infield prospect Yoan Moncada was back in the lineup for Class-A Greenville on Wednesday for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury on Saturday.

Moncada missed just three game with the injury so it's obviously not considered anything major right now. He should be monitored over the next game or two to ensure that he doesn't re-aggravate the injury. Analysis: Howard Bender

Julius Thomas (calf) did not participate in OTA's Thursday.

The injury is considered minor right now and since OTAs are voluntary, Thomas sitting out isn't a big deal. Look for him to get some rest and take part in workouts in a few days. The former favorite red zone target for Peyton Manning has his work cut out for him in Jacksonville as he's going to need to step up his work between the 20's if he wants to succeed. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Orioles recalled pitcher Tyler Wilson from Triple-A Norfolk to start the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox.

Wilson has a 3.29 ERA and 7.02 K/9 over 49 2/3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk this season and had pitched a pair of innings out of the bullpen for the Orioles earlier in the year. He is not likely to stay beyond this start and he is not available for Thursday DFS games, so his value is next to nothing right now. Analysis: Howard Bender

Alex Wood is confident his early-season struggles are behind him.

After Wood out-dueled Zack Greinke on Wednesday, he commented that he thought he had his best mechanics working in this start and that he was confident that this was a great starting point for him for the duration of the season. Apparently, through the first five starts, Wood was having mechanical issues that affected his sinker and his changeup. Pitching coach Roger McDowell helped him through it and now he's on a run where he's allowed just two runs over his last 19 2/3 innings. if you thought he was high on people's radar to start the year, imagine the trade talk that is about to ensue. Analysis: Howard Bender

Avisail Garcia (knee) is not in the White Sox starting lineup Thursday.

Garcia has missed the last two games after serving as a pinch-hitter in the two before that and then sitting in the two prior to the pinch-hitting, all because of the knee issue. The White Sox still believe that he doesn't need to head to the disabled list so they will continue to list him as day-to-day. J.B. Shuck will play right field in his absence. Analysis: Howard Bender

Grant Balfour is leaning toward retirement.

It's apparently obvious that no other teams have shown any interest in the veteran free agent. Ideally, he would like a major league contract, but if he has tp settle for a minor league deal, he wants some sort of assurance that he'll be brought up in a timely fashion. If he can't get that, he'll probably head back Down Under. Analysis: Howard Bender

Craig Kimbrel has thrown on three straight days.

Given that, should the Padres find themselves in a save situation Thursday, manager Bud Black is likely to turn the ball over to Joaquin Benoit who did not pitch Wednesday at all. Just a one-day thing here, nothing more than that. Analysis: Howard Bender

Masahiro Tanaka struggled in a minor-league rehab start Wednesday at Triple-A, lasting only three innings while allowing three runs, and now the Yankees aren’t sure what their plan is for the injured right-hander.

While their plan should have been surgery and that plan should have been put into effect last year, the Yankees find themselves with some tough choices here. It's painfully obvious that Tanaka is nowhere near the pitcher he was prior to the injury and he and the team have simply postponed the inevitable. They'll give him some more minor league league work to see if he can regain some of his form, but the team doesn't really want to do it this way as they are obviously concerned that he'll re-injure himself in rehab and need to be shut down anyway. Could we call this the Devin Mesoraco of pitchers, the way the Yankees have mishandled this? Absolutely. Analysis: Howard Bender

The White Sox recalled Daniel Webb from Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox play a doubleheader on Thursday, so they'll bring up Webb as their 26th man and get a little bullpen depth. He doesn;t have any fantasy value though and will likely head back to Triple-A Charlotte immediately following the games. Analysis: Howard Bender
