Mashahiro Tanaka allowed just one run on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters in Sunday's 7-1 victory over the White Sox.
Tanaka continued his early season dominance on Sunday, improving to 7-1 with a 2.29 ERA and 0.98 WHIP through his first 10 starts. He is now holding down a 79:10 K:BB rate over 70.2 innings, while pitching the seventh inning or later in every trip to the mound. It is safe to say he has made the proper adjustments since coming over to the United States. He will be on the hunt for win No. 8 when he takes on the Twins this weekend. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
