The Cubs signed Manny Ramirez to be a player-coach at Triple-A Iowa.
A player-coach? So the Cubs minor league system can start grooming it's future attitude problems early? If Ramirez can actually teach what he knows about hitting, then this could be a great move for some of the young prospects who seem on the verge of a call-up, however, we're all going to have to brace ourselves for Javier being Javier, Kris being Kris and a whole slew of other annoyances. The player part of this arrangement for Manny seems a little far-fetched and shouldn't fool you into thinking that a resurgence is headed your way.ANALYST: Howard Bender
MLB/MLBPA panel is deadlocked over whether Josh Hamilton should be sent to rehab.
Hamilton's fate rested in the hands of four people, and the votes were split on whether or not to send the former All-Star to rehab. Hamilton was known to have failed at least six drug tests as a minor leaguer and was suspended from baseball from 2004 to 2006. He is in the third year of a five-year, $125 million deal and the Angels are hoping that he is on the field. He has been a bust since inking this contract and he is worth no more than a last round draft pick, especially with this relapse news. Analysis: Colby Conway
