Giancarlo Stanton smashed two home runs in Friday's loss to the Brewers.
Stanton is off to an amazing season now sitting on a .314 average with 14 home runs and 47 RBI through his first 185 at-bats. While it is unlikely he maintains a batting average north of .300 over 500-plus at-bats, his home run total is right on track with previous seasons, but his RBI totals have far surpassed what he showed up to this point a season ago. As long as he can stay healthy Stanton remains on track to have a career-year, giving a great return on investment for those who got him in the cheap this past off-season. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
Rays designated P Grant Balfour for assignment.
There's no word as to why Balfour was DFA'd here as he's pitched pretty well so far, especially for a guy who had to leave the team during spring training to help take care of his ailing father. He did hit a bump in the road Saturday when he allowed three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning, but before that, he had made five appearances, pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed two hits with no runs. The Rays will likely give some reason for the move, but look for Balfour to pick up with another team fairly quickly. Analysis: Howard Bender
