Carlos Gomez is not out of the lineup because of his back Sunday. He caught some sort of flu-like bug and is sick.
Well this just gets better and better. More karma coming back to bite Gomez who tried to skirt his suspension by dropping his appeal when he suffered a back injury. Depending on how sever a case of the flu it is, Gomez could miss a few days if he suffers from dehydration as well. Consider him day-to-day as the baseball gods are obviously not done with him just yet.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Blue Jays signed LHP J.A. Happ to a three-year deal.
On the surface, this doesn't look like a good deal for the Blue Jays. While they're desperately in need of a starter, and Happ fits the bill as...well, a starter, this is an overpay. $12 million a year for a 33-year old pitcher who had a 3.61 ERA last year, and last had a qualified season with an ERA under 4.00 in 2007, doesn't seem like the smartest of investments. Happ does have upside, in fact he had a 1.85 ERA and 2.19 FIP (63.1 innings) in Toronto last year in Pittsburgh last year, after being traded to the team from the Mariners, but a 4.64 ERA and 4.12 FIP in 108.2 prior innings with Seattle is less than encouraging. This deal could turn out well, but it is much more likely that it is a bust for the Blue Jays. Analysis: Ben Diamond
