FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Jason Motte (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list Sunday.

He should immediately settle into an eighth-inning set-up role with Trevor Rosenthal remaining as the team's closer. Yes, Rosenthal has had his ups and downs, but manager Mike Matheny hasn;t even hinted at the notion of changing closers and he certainly isn't going to thrust Motte into the job right from the start upon his return from Tommy John surgery. Grab him if you need holds, though.ANALYST: Howard Bender

Wilson Ramos is not in the Nationals starting lineup on Tuesday.

After four-staright games behind the dish, Ramos will get a day of rest. He'll look to continue his four-game hit streak when he returns Wednesday, but for now, it's Jose Lobaton starting behind the plate. Analysis: Howard Bender

Alex Rodriguez is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Tuesday.

A-Rod has started the last five games but with take a seat Tuesday to get some rest while the Yankees face right-hander Jake Odorizzi, against whom he is hitless in four at-bats. Lefty-swinging Garrett Jones will get the nod as the Yankees designated hitter. Analysis: Howard Bender

Justin Verlander is on the field having a light toss from 30 feet on Tuesday.

While you'd like to look at this as a positive, there have been so many misguided reports regarding Verlander's overall condition. There is no timetable set for his return and it doesn't appear to be anytime soon. If you've been stashing him this whole time, get ready for additional disappointment. Analysis: Howard Bender

Brett Oberholtzer's first rehab start will likely be Thursday with Triple-A Fresno.

Oberholtzer has been throwing to live hitters now for a little more than a week and is ready to start his rehab assignment. He may only need a start or two at Triple-A to get ready and appears to be on-track to rejoining the Astros rotation in early May. Analysis: Howard Bender

Steven Wright has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Wright will head back to the minors as the Red Sox are more in need of some offensive depth than bullpen at the moment. He will likely be on the shuttle back and forth throughout the year, but is still not someone with whom fantasy owners should bother. Analysis: Howard Bender

Red Sox have recalled Jackie Bradley Jr from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox are in need of some depth as Shane Victorino is on the DL and with Mike Napoli nursing a bad case of the sniffles, Daniel Nava is being used at first base. Bradley may be able to audition here for a larger role and could conceivably carve something out for himself while Victorino is out, if he plays well. For now, though, he is not someone fantasy owners should be considering. Analysis: Howard Bender

Eric Young is not in the Braves starting lineup on Tuesday.

The Braves have been pretty adamant regarding giving Cameron Maybin the starting center field job and once again, Young takes a seat, even against a right-handed starter. He's been relegated to fourth outfield duties and even Kelly Johnson, who is starting in left Tuesday, is seeing more work lately. Analysis: Howard Bender

Khris Davis is not in the Brewers starting lineup on Tuesday.

Davis is just getting a day off, just his second of the season. He'll be back in the lineup Wednesday, but for Tuesday's game, Gerardo Parra will shift over to left field while Logan Schafer works in center. Analysis: Howard Bender

Bills have exercised their fifth-year contract option on CB Stephon Gilmore.

The Bills are obviously hoping that they exercised the option on the second-half Gilmore and not the first-half guy. Over the early part of the season, Gilmore was toasted by receivers every which way, allowing 22 completions on 27 passes thrown in his direction. In the second half though, he massively improved his coverage skills and allowed just 21 completions on 42 passes thrown his way as quarterbacks made a major attempt to expose his flaws. If he can maintain where he was in the latter half of the season he should prove to be a strong defensive asset. Analysis: Howard Bender

Ryan Braun has returned to the Brewers lineup on Tuesday.

With Braun hitting just .226 on the season, manager Ron Roenicke opted to give him the last two games off to help clear his head. Perhaps they should have given him a third day as he is just 8-for-41 (.195) with no home runs and no RBI against Reds starter Johnny Cueto. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jason Heyward will return to the Cardinals starting lineup on Tuesday.

Heyward tweaked his groin Sunday and sat out the game Monday to get some extra rest. He will start Tuesday against the Phillies and hopefully improve on this dismal .205 average of his.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Orioles and Rays are expected to play this weekend series at Tropicana Field instead of Camden Yards.

It's a wise move for MLB to do so and the Orioles fans will likely have their money refunded for the games missed. This is a major safety issue and it's just best to keep as many people away from the scene as they can. Wednesday's game against the White Sox will be played at Camden Yards but will be closed to the public. Analysis: Howard Bender
