Glen Perkins picked up his ninth save of the year despite allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts over one inning against the Tigers on Friday.
After allowing four runs over his first three appearances to start the season Perkins has allowed just two over his next nine appearances. So, just chalk this up to a tough matchup versus a talented Tigers lineup. Despite allowing a run, Perkins was able to shut the door on his ninth consecutive save after blowing is one and only save of the season in his first opportunity of the year.ANALYST: Michael Pichan
Javier Baez was in the middle of a nasty collision Friday at second base while trying to turn a double play. It looked bad enough manager Joe Maddon was a bit nervous Baez may have suffered a serious injury.
Baez will be fine, but it was indeed a scary moment for the Cubs. Kole Calhoun took Baez out on a double play, but instead of him sliding into his feet, due to the position that Baez was in, he was drilled in the midsection by Calhoun's elbow. As Maddon accurately put it, he "got smoked." Being Joe Maddon, he of course added in that "I loved it." Initially Maddon feared that Baez was seriously injured as he writhed in pain on the ground, but the former top prospect, who is just 22, will be fine and even singled in singled in a later at bat. He is a risky fantasy proposition, who may not even make the Opening Day squad, but his upside is ridiculous. Analysis: Ben Diamond
