FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Jurickson Profar (shoulder) will DH in extended spring game Monday in Arizona.

Slow and steady wins the race? Maybe. Profar will continue to work out of extended spring training until the team is comfortable with his swing and that he is doing it pain-free. He's still looking at a potential June return, but the club will happily play a wait-and-see game here. Rougned Odor was just promoted, so we'll see how he fares first.ANALYST: Howard Bender

Blue Jays coach Brook Jacoby was suspended 14 games for contact with an umpire.

The Jays have had four different hitting coaches in the last four years and have featured stacked offensive lineups for most of that span, so I find it hard to believe that his will have any sort of impact.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Texans have agreed to a four-year deal with outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus.

When taken in the first round of the 2012 draft, the Texans expected more sack production out of Mercilus, but similarly to what happened with the Cowboys and Anthony Spencer years ago, they found out that he has some serious value in the run stuffing department. Solid deal for a player who seems to still be getting better at the ripe age of 24.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Mariners select contract of LHP Joe Beimel from Triple-A Tacoma.

Beimel only pitched a few times in Triple-A so far this season, but his success in those few outings were enough for the Mariners to give him a call up. Expect him to matchup against leftys for the most part going forward.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Mariners designated LHP Mike Kickham for assignment.

At 26-years old, it looks like the Mariners were fed up with Kickham's antics, as his inflated ERA and walk rate gave them no indication that he could get a grasp on professional pitching. Even if he gets picked up, don't expect Kickham to get a call to the show at any point this season.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Mariners recalled INF Chris Taylor from Triple-A Tacoma.

Taylor is likely getting the call up due to the recent news of Austin Jackson heading to the DL with an ankle injury. He should primarily serve in a bench role, so his fantasy value is limited going forward.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Dodgers optioned RHP Matt West to Double-A Tulsa.

This move was a foregone conclusion after the Dodgers traded for West's rights. He is a solid pitcher with some potential upside, so expect him to thrive in Double-A. Analysis: Dom Murtha

Dodgers have designated RHP Scott Baker for assignment.

The Dodgers were in a tough situation and Baker happened to be the odd-man out. He hasn't exactly been effective this season, but there will be teams that feel his best baseball is ahead of him, so expect him to have a new job in the coming weeks. Analysis: Dom Murtha

A.J. Griffin (Tommy John surgery) is close to starting a rehab assignment.

Better luck next season for A.J. Griffin, but the good news is at least he underwent the surgery early enough in the season so that he can be back early on next year, provided his rehab goes well.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will throw two more bullpen sessions before he advances to facing hitters.

The A's have been struggling to get save opportunities as it is, so don't expect Doolittle to save your team once he returns in mid-May or so. But in any case when Doolittle does return, expect him to assume the closer role again and for Tyler Clippard to bump down to the setup spot.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Mariners placed Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list with an ankle injury.

Justin Ruggiano will presumably start in center while Jackson recovers from his ankle issue over the next couple of weeks. The production difference will be noticeable, but neither player will anchor your fantasy team anyway.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Nate Freiman (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Even when Freiman does return to the club in early June, his fantasy outlook doesn't seem too bright. Expect him to be more of a fringe roster player in fantasy terms once he is healthy. Analysis: Dom Murtha

Yonder Alonso is not in the Padres starting lineup on Monday.

Alonso has been hitting a solid .333 so far this season, so it comes as a surprise that he will not be playing on Monday, but he must just be in need of some rest. Yangervis Solarte will be starting at first in his place.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

49ers placed ILB Chris Borland on the reserve/retired list.

Borland retired early in this offseason, so he logically would make the transition to this "list". It has also been reported that he will pay back most of his signing bonus.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Packers have released C Joe Madsen.

Madsen isn't a very athletic center and in today's NFL, it appears that is the direction that the position is beginning to head. The Packers said good riddance, but there is nothing saying that there won't be at least a couple of teams looking to give Madsen a training camp invite. Analysis: Dom Murtha
